In order provide meaningful public involvement and ensure the future implementation and
resulting success of Community Plans, Community Plan Advisory Boards have been created.
The first Board to convene was the City Center Community Plan Advisory Board in May 2012.
The second Board to convene was the Benson Hill Community Plan Advisory Board in July 2016.
Each Advisory Board has made recommendations
regarding priorities for proposed work as it
relates to the adopted goals and strategies of
their respective Plan. This represents a new
approach to civic engagement for the City and
will help the City truly know the priorities of the
community. The structure of each plan with
responsible departments identified, timelines,
and rough costs will help the Board prioritize
recommendations, as well as provide a level of
accountability from the City. It is also intended that Board members will develop an
understanding of how the City works in regards to finances, processes, Capital Improvement
Plans, Transportation Improvement Plans, departmental work programs, etc. and that they will
communicate information back to the groups they represent. Board membership includes
business leaders and owners, residents, and employees. It is hoped that this composition will
lead to new partnerships, such as between businesses and residents, which will help to
implement the Plan fully. Members are enthused about their role in shaping their community
and in ensuring the City Center continues towards goals of having a high quality of life for
residents, employees, and visitors.
