HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 6028CITYOFRENTON,WASHINGTONORDINANCENO.602$ANORDINANCEOFTHECITYOFRENTON,WASHINGTON,AMENDINGSECTION1-8-1OFTHERENTONMUNICIPALCODE,ADDINGMARTINLUTHERKING,JR.DAYASAHOLIDAY,ADDINGJUNETEENTHASAHOLIDAY,CLARIFYINGLANGUAGEASTOTHEROTATIONOFTHEEXISTINGHOLIDAYTHATROTATESBETWEENTHEDAYBEFOREANDTHEDAYAFTERCHRISTMAS,ANDCLARIFYINGLANGUAGEREGARDINGTHEOBSERVANCEOFHOLIDAYSOCCURRINGONSATURDAYSANDSUNDAYS,PROVIDINGFORSEVERABILITY,ANDESTABLISHINGANEFFECTIVEDATE.NOW,THEREFORE,THECITYCOUNCILOFTHECITYOFRENTON,WASHINGTON,DOORDAINASFOLLOWS:SECTIONI.AllportionsoftheRentonMunicipalCodeinthisordinancenotshowninstrikethroughandunderlineeditsremainineffectandunchanged.SECTIONII.Section1-8-1oftheRentonMunicipalCodeisamendedasfollows:A.ThefollowingareherebydeclaredandestablishedaslegalholidaysintheCityandrecognizedassuchlegalholidaysfortheemployeesoftheCity,withoutlossofpay:1.ThefirstdayofJanuary,commonlycalledNewYear’sDay.2.ThethirdMondayofJanuary,commonlyknownasMartinLutherKing,Jr.Day.2-3.ThelastMondayinMay,commonlyknownasMemorialDay.4.ThenineteenthdayofJune,commonlyknownas]uneteenth.3-5.ThefourthdayofJuly,beingtheanniversaryoftheDeclarationofIndependence.‘h6.ThefirstMondayinSeptember,tobeknownasLaborDay.1 ORDINANCENO.6028S-J.TheeleventhdayofNovember,tobeknownasVeterans’Day.68.ThefourthThursdayinNovember,tobeknownasThanksgivingDay.L.9•ThedayimmediatelyfollowingThanksgivingDay.&10.ThetwentyfifthofDecember,commonlycalledChristmasDay.941.ThedaybeforeChristmasshallbeaholidayforCityemployeeswhenWhenChristmasDayoccursisobservedonaTuesday,Wednesday,orFriday,thepreviousdayshallbeaholidayforCityemployees.ThedayafterChristmasshallbeaholidayforCityemployeeswhenWhenChristmasdayoccursisobservedonaMonday,Wednesday,orThursday.WhenChristmasDayfallsonaSaturday,theprecedingThursdayandFridaythenextdayshallbeaholidaysforCityemployees.WhenChristmasDayfallsonaSunday,thefollowingMondayandTuesdayshallbeholidaysforCityemployees.B.NothinginthisSectionshallhavetheeffectofaddingordeletingthenumberofpaidholidaysprovidedforinanyexistingbargainingagreementsbetweentheCityanditsemployees.C.IfanyoftheabovespecifiedStatelegalholidaysarealsoFederallegalholidaysbutobservedondifferentdates,onlytheStatelegalholidaysshallberecognizedasapaidlegalholidayfortheemployeesoftheCityashereinabovesetforth.D.Wheneveranyoftheabovelegalholidays,otherthanSunday,falluponaSunday,theholidayshallbeobservedonthefollowingMondayshallbeasa2 ORDINANCENO.6028legalholiday;likewise,whenanysuchlegalholidayfallsuponaSaturday,theholidayshallbeobservedontheprecedingFridayshallbedeemcdasalegalholiday.SECTIONIII.Ifanysection,subsection,sentence,clause,phraseorworkofthisordinanceshouldbeheldtobeinvalidorunconstitutionalbyacourtorcompetentjurisdiction,suchinvalidityorunconstitutionalitythereofshallnotaffecttheconstitutionalityofanyothersection,subsection,sentence,clause,phraseorwordofthisordinance.SECTIONIV.Thisordinanceshallbeinfullforceandeffectthirty(30)daysafterpublicationofasummaryofthisordinanceintheCity’sofficialnewspaper.Thesummaryshallconsistofthisordinance’stitle.PASSEDBYTHECITYCOUNCILthis18thdayofOctober,2021.t•JasoA.Seth,yClerkAPPROVEDBYTHEMAYORthis18thdayofOctober,2021.Approvedastoform:ShaneMoloney,CityAttorneyDateofPublication:10/21/2021(Summary)ORD:2178:10/15/20213
