The Renton School District (RSD) owns and operates their main bus transportation facility located
at 420 Park Ave N (Parcel 7564600105). RSD also owns the two individual properties to the
northwest of the main facility which are part of this Pre-Application request located at 444 Park
Ave N (Parcel 7224000675) and 450 Park Ave N (Parcel 7224000676). RSD is interested in
installing approximately 48 formal parking spaces (approximately 14,600 SF of new/replaced
impervious surface) with perimeter landscaping and buffer on these parcels that are necessary to
provide additional parking capacity to accommodate a combination of vehicles including staff,
fleet, and potentially smaller buses. These parking improvements are intended to be within
secured fencing, similar to what is already surround the existing transportation facility, and most
likely accessed from within the current facility. The extent of the proposed parking is following
the same geometry as what was utilized when the original facility.
The project is anticipated to be constructed during the summer of 2023, while school is not in
session.
Associated with this new parking, but not currently part of this project, RSD is studying internal
bus, fleet, and employee parking stall reconfiguration to their existing facilities to potentially
increase its capacity and/or improve traffic flow through the site. We are interested in having a
discussion with the City about the ability to remove existing internal landscaping that is not
accessible to the public), which could provide circulation flexibility and potentially additional
parking.
