The responses to bidder inquiries, unless incorporated into a formal addendum to the contract, are not
part of the contract and are provided for the bidders’ convenience only. The responses may be
considered along with all other information furnished to prospective bidders for the purpose of bidding
on the project. The use of information provided in the responses o bidder inquires is not to be construed
in any way as a waiver of the provisions nor excuse the contra tor from full compliance with the contract
requirements. Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary
response previously given and any such subsequent response of addenda should be taken into
consideration when submitting a bid for the project.
Questions and Answers No. 5
1. Question: Where can I find the structural foundation depths for the illumination pole on Signal
and Illumination Drawings? Note Design standard only list the minimum not structural depths.
Answer: Illumination pole foundations shall be 10ft in depth. Updated Luminaire plan sheets
clarifying this will be issued with Addendum 7.
2. Question: 5 G network conduit the signal plans call for a 4” sch 80 PVC in conduit notes but in the
notes is states the conduit shall be divided up into 4 raceways. Is the correct terminology to be
stated that you want to have a 4” Sch 80 4 Cell Multi‐Guard conduit (with 4 each 1” cell
innerducts)?
Answer: On the Illumination and Interconnect Plans, below the Wire Notes tables, Note 3 says
“4” conduits for future 5G (small cell) networks shall be divided into 4 raceways.”
For further clarification, the Contractor is to propose a method of dividing the 4” conduit into four
raceways, for approval by the City during the material submittal process. Conduit innerducts are
acceptable, but not required. An acceptable flexible insert product can also be approved.
3. Question: The wire notes state the conduit shall have a detectable marker tape labeled “City of
Renton”. I understand from suppliers this will be a very expensive to product and a minimum
order of 2 million feet. Do you know of a source that supply’s special labels on detectable locate
tape such as you are requesting?
Answer: On the Illumination and Interconnect Plans, below the Wire Notes tables, Note 1 says
“Conduits that do not contain electrical conductors shall include a detectable pull tape and shall
be labeled “City of Renton.””

For further clarification, the detectable pull tape shall be labeled “City of Renton” at the ends of
each conduit, where the tape exits the conduit. The tape does not need to be labelled “City of
Renton” throughout its length. Permanent, waterproof “City of Renton” labels may be added on
the tape near the ends, after the tape is installed in the conduit.
4. Question: I just noticed that Addendum 4 as it relates to the new bid item D19 in which it states
to Install 4” Fiber Optic Cable. I am guessing this is conduit as opposed to cable. However, I just
wanted to clarify being I just saw this. Being there isn’t 4” Fiber cable I am assuming this was a
typo.
Answer: Item name should be 4” Fiber Optic Conduit. Addendum 7 will show this name revision.
5. Question: I noticed another discrepancy with bid item D17. It no longer specifies a description as
well as the LF is off as well by 2300 LF. Was this supposed to be a deduction to take into account
the 4” PSE Fiber Conduit? If so, I don’t think that is correct. I scaled approx. 8300 LF for the 4”
PSE Power Conduits without taking into account the additional 4” Fiber which came to an
additional 2200 LF, which would be a total of PSE 4” 10,500 LF for both the Fiber & Power. Please
let me know if I am missing something. I ran the numbers a couple of times and came up with
pretty much the same thing.
Answer: Bid Item D17 should read “Install 4” Diameter Conduit – PSE Power, 8000 LF”.
Addendum 7 will show this revision.
6. Question: Can you advise if the traffic signal mast arm & pedestrian signal poles are to have
decorative base covers supplied for them as a part of this project?
Answer: We do not show decorative signal pole bases on the plans. See also City of Renton Std
Plan 140 for signal poles. Bases should be painted as specified by WSDOT standard plans.
7. Question: This inquiry is in reference to Bid item A142 – 5G Small Cell Network Conduit System.
Plans show each 4” Multicell conduit going in and out of a Type 1 Junction box. J40.10‐04 states
the max capacity of conduit at 6” which isn’t enough capacity for (2) 4” Conduits per the Junction
box dimension table. Per the plans there are (40) Type 1 J‐boxes & (10) Type 2 J‐boxes associated
with this bid item.
Answer: Most of the Type 1 junction boxes are at the luminaire pole locations and they have 4”
conduit in and 2” conduit out to the pole (total 6”). There is a handful of pass through junction
boxes that have 4” in and 4” out (total 8”). 8” of conduit fits into a Type 1 junction box. Mostly the
definition for the junction box is set by how much wiring you expect to fit in the enclosure. Many
jurisdictions oversize the amount conduit to reduce junction box footprint. These few junction
boxes will be empty at the beginning, but if there is a need for 5G wiring later, it will be able to
accommodate it.
